Edgecast began its story in 2006, born out of a vision to revolutionize content delivery at the dawn of the digital video era. Backed by Steamboat Ventures—the venture capital arm of The Walt Disney Company—we set up shop in Los Angeles with a mission to build one of the most powerful and reliable content delivery networks in the world.

Our innovation and growth quickly earned recognition. By 2009, we had already turned EBITA positive and were ranked third in the CDN industry by the Yankee Group. Just a few years later, we climbed to 13th on Deloitte’s Fast 500 list for North America in 2012.

In December 2013, Edgecast joined forces with Verizon Communications, becoming a key part of the Verizon Digital Media Services group. Alongside companies like upLynk LLC, we expanded our capabilities and reach in the rapidly evolving digital media landscape.

As Verizon’s digital media division evolved, so did we. In 2017, we became part of Oath Inc.—later rebranded as Verizon Media in 2019. Our journey took another exciting turn in 2021, when Apollo Global Management acquired a majority stake in Verizon Media, reviving the iconic Yahoo! brand. It was during this transition that our name, Edgecast, returned—symbolizing both our roots and our future.

Then, in 2022, another bold chapter began. Limelight Networks announced its intent to acquire Edgecast, a $300 million move that marked the beginning of something new. On June 16, 2022, the deal was finalized, and the companies came together under a new name: Edgio.

The core technology and team that made Edgecast exceptional found a new home at Pulse, which acquired key assets and welcomed many of the original Edgecast employees into its ranks.
Today, the spirit of Edgecast lives on at Pulse—where the legacy continues. With years of experience and a deep understanding of scalable, high-performance infrastructure, the team is once again building the future of cloud delivery, from the edge outward.
